For Christmas this year I made the older 3 girls a fancy doll with a crown (Ruby isn't quite old enough yet). I really love jess brown dolls. They are some of my absolute favorites, but with this many girls they are just not in our budget right now. So, for a few years I have made Sterling and Elle a few that were similar (see here , here and here). I purchased this book on how to make them just recently and it has a pattern in the back to make your own. I tweaked it a little to my own liking but stuck with the same face (star eyes and heart mouth), and hair made from old sweaters. I called these "the King's Daughter" to remind the girls that they are indeed the true King's daughter as they are adopted into God's royal family as his children because of Jesus. And He is the true celebration of Christmas to begin with. It is important to us that our children know what Christmas represents and where it originates. We also try to make it a priority that the girls know where they came from, who our Creator is, and what their identity is in God's kingdom versus what the world has to say.
So, I made each doll their own elastic crown that can easily be taken off. Sterling has been requesting a brown doll for a while now, so the middle one is hers!
And for a little more fun I gave them each a few scarfs to change as accessories and make them a little more fancy. I love to celebrate the pretty side of being a girl. When we first just had Sterling we never bought princess stuff. She never even watched princess movies. It just wasn't her thing (and not really mine either). But with time, and 4 girls later, I find myself wanting to celebrate the feminine. I'm all for there being a balance of interests and sorts, but it is good to be balanced. Being beautiful, feeling pretty, being a girl should be celebrated. And being a princess in the eyes of a heavenly King is the most beautiful of all.
So glad I got these finished just in time!
