REPURPOSED BUNNY FROM AN OLD SWEATER

I'm a little behind in sharing this repurposed project, as we have had quite a bit going on over the past few months, but it's a bunny I made Sterling for Christmas (per her request). And since it's almost Easter, well...the bunny theme works for this as well. Each one of the girls asked for several handmade gifts (from me and each other), and Sterling really wanted a bunny made from an old sweater. I had found this fuzzy sweater from the thrift store a while back and it worked perfectly.

So, I used one of these bunnies I made for the girls a few years back as my pattern. Here is one of the sleeves that I used to cut out the body (one sleeve for the front and the other for the back).

I then cut out the ears, legs, and arms. The eyes and nose are hand sewn. The rest was done by my machine. When I was done I still felt like it needed a little something else, so I used the bottom of the sweater and cut out a pocket (this part of the sweater was ribbed and it gave a nice texture to the rest of the bunny). I made a little felt heart to put inside the pocket with a little embroidered "i love you". I had some scraps of a different sweater that matched perfectly and I used the cuff of the sleeve for the scarf.
Here's how it turned out.

Sterling fell in love with this quirky handmade bunny. It's super soft from the sweater fabric, and she has seriously slept with it every night since Christmas!

I love to repurpose clothing, but it's also fun to make other things from old or used clothing that you might not want or wear anymore. This was great because I didn't even have to buy any of the materials. I think I want to try and make a bear from an old sweater next time, similar to this one ..

Here's a few other really cute options:

- this denim whale (could be made from an old pair of jeans)

- or this linen bunny

thanks so much, Nili!! It's truly as much fun for me to make things like this as it is for them to receive it. :)
