An early Christmas present

Oh, man! I saw the cutest sewing machine for little kids on this website the other day (http://www.redvelvetart.com/children/sewing-machine-red) and I wished soooooo much that we had $50 to splurge on this. (but we don't, of course) Sterling has been asking for a sewing machine for a year now. It all started because she saw a real one in a store one day, but it's for 6 yrs and older. So, she's not quite ready for needles and sharp things. So, when I saw this one it was perfect.
I showed it to Brandon and of course he was like, "that's cute" but gave me the face like....it's way too expensive. So, I told him I was going to try and make one.
And here it is.

I would have made it different, but I really liked this one alot so I used what I had that was similar and added an "on/off" switch.
This was such a clever idea for little ones that are interested in sewing because they made these little loops and such to teach how to thread the machine and the buttons turn a little! And they come in other cute colors as well, if you are interested. I would have loved to buy this but it just wasn't in our budget for sure.
I would have kept it a surprise but it took almost half of a day, from beginning to end, making a pattern and all. When she saw what I was making she kept asking me, "is it finished yet?".
And when it was done, she was so excited to practice sewing!

Here's the little sketch I made from the orginal on the website. And it's a little uneven in some spots but that makes it more homemade. With the stuff I bought and some things I already had, this cost about $6-7. I think I'm going to have to buy a few more colors of satin yarn to make a few more spools of thread for her so she can change out the thread if she wants.

This was so much fun to make! Happy "early" Christmas!
