For Halloween we decided to have a fancy dinner at home where the girls got to get all dressed up. Brandon was the waiter and I was the hostess and chef. We have done this a few times before and they get so excited. It's really cute.
We don't really do trick or treating. And this year it just felt like more fun to have an evening together at home. As you can tell by the picture below, Ruby was quite exhausted after the whole thing.
We love this little family of ours, and making fun memories together. I imagine it won't be long and they will be all grown up...so I try to remember to be present in the now. I love the silliness and imagination that comes along with this age, and one day I will look back at our pictures or videos and smile. I pray that Brandon and I won't ever get too caught up in the everyday routine of life that we miss these precious moments right now, of the times when our children verbally let us know that they need us. Even now as our oldest (who is 8) sometimes requests to be held or asks to sit on my lap. I try to stop, be present, and grant her request when I can, rather than dismiss it or put her off because I know too well that one day times will change and I will be the one wanting her affection as she is busy with the adventures of life and finding her own way. I must stay present.
