Another repurposed project! This one was for Sterling. She has really been into long skirts lately, but I haven't really found many in her size. So, when I was at the thrift store (again, because that's where I end up going the most) I saw this XL gauze skirt in the women's section and I knew Sterling would like the colors. So, I snatched it up! She tried it on and the length was actually perfect so I didn't have to hem it and I could keep the original waist band. All I did was pin the sides (which you can see in this photo if you look close enough) to know how much to cut off on width. Cut down on both sides to make it even. Then sewed it back up. I also tightened the elastic in the back that was already there, to make sure it fit pretty snug.
With the extra fabric on the sides I cut out some pockets, because everything is cooler with pockets (or at least we think so)!
This fabric is extra thin, with a built in layered lining. It makes for a very flowy skirt, which she really liked! And the rainbow stripes made it an excellent find.
I found another skirt I want to do the same thing to, so I'm pretty excited to get started on the next one.
