Here's my latest repurposed project. As I've mentioned before...repurposed clothes are fun and quicker to make than from scratch...but also if you're ever on a tight budget and want to have something new, this is a great way to make it happen. Or if you happen to be like me and have some things you have outgrown (whether it's the style or size), you can just repurpose them for your kids. So, here is a jumper I just made for Sophie. It was super easy. I completely forgot to do the photos during the process on this one but I have another similar dress that I want to do the same thing to and I may post that one as well to show the "how to".
Here's the dress before.
It was a jersey knit knee length dress for me. Cute print but just not something I felt like was for me anymore. It already had the waist line sewn in and it gathered at the waist. All I did was cut off the sleeves and cut it as two straps for both sides. And because this fabric was jersey knit I didn't even bother to sew the edge because it worked great just to tie them at the top with a raw edge (and that type of fabric doesn't really fray if you cut it really straight). Super easy! Then I cut out a triangle shape (measuring it from another pair of pants) to make the leg openings. Then just sew it up. And the bottom already has a hem from the original dress. So, basically this short dress for me was basically the same as a full length jumper for Sophie.
I was going for a loose fit for her and this fit the bill.
I'm happy with how this one turned out, and the deer print is really sweet.
I have another dress to make into a jumper for Ruby next. Hopefully I'll do before and afters if anyone is interested in more of a tutorial of sorts. Happy sewing!
